Bombay Rava Upma is a thick porridge, made with coarse rice flour (rava) with vegetables. Upma is prepared for breakfast and served with peanut chutney.
Heat up oil in a pan aadd 1/2 tablespoon Mustard,Cumin seeds,Black gram,Chana dal, Peanuts and Cashew nuts. Once Cashew nuts are fried, add chopped Onions, Ginger, Tomato, Chilli, Curry Leaves and fry them until the onions turn into golden brown.Keep the flame in medium
Add one cup of bombay rava to the mix and roast for 2 to 3 minutes. This step is necessary to avoid any lumping when water is added. You can also roast it in a separate pan and add to the mix
Add two cups of water and salt to the initial mix and wait till the water is boiled. Now add roasted bombay rava gently by stirring boiling water. Stir well to avoid any lumping and allow it to cook for 5 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve it hot.
Bombay rava upma can be served with Peanut or Coconut Chutney. You can try with Mango Pickle if you like it spicy.
